CATS.  They’re adorable, they’re playful, they’re our little fur babies. And now you get to rescue them!  In SANCTUARY, players take charge of animal rescues, gathering resources and taking cats out of the city shelter. They then match those adorable pets with adopters who are searching for their unique traits. The rescuers who find the most homes for cats, and who achieve other goals, will win the game. But be careful not to let the city shelter fill up beyond capacity, or everyone loses.

Our goal is not only to create an enjoyable game, but to also raise awareness of the importance of cat rescue, fostering, and adoption. As such, we are also donating 5% of all proceeds to real animal sanctuaries to help save lives, and get more cats adopted.

5% of proceeds go to real sanctuaries

SANCTUARY is designed to be easy to learn and easy to play, while retaining a substantive level of depth. This makes it accessible to light gamers who are more interested in the cat theme, while still being challenging for more competitive gamers.

Quick and Easy to Play

The game uses a simple matching mechanic. Players first pull cats from the city shelter into their homes, then try to find adopters who have similar traits. The more traits the person and the cat have in common, the easier it is to fulfill the adoption.

Players can also draw and play Subsidies cards, which help them out, and Goals cards which give them extra points for achieving certain goals. At the end of the game, the players who reached certain achievements gain the final points which can tip the balance of the game.

Hidden Trait: When moving a cat from the city shelter to a sanctuary or foster, immediately get a free trait and place it on one of the empty circles. (This rule was used at a lot of conventions, and reflects the idea that cats reveal a hidden trait when they are placed in a comfortable home.)
